Liquor Licensing
Annual Renewals
Apart from Occasional Licences, all licences will be valid from the 1st July to the 30th June. Section 9 of the Licensing Ordinance sets out the process for Annual Renewals.
When do Annual Renewals happen?
The court will list an Annual Renewals session during the second week of May each year.
Do I need to do anything?
If you are the holder of a Justices' On-Licence, Justices' Off-Licence or a Part V licence you do not need to do anything unless;
1) you no longer wish to have a licence; or
2) you have been sent a letter by the court telling you to attend the hearing. If you have been asked to attend the hearing you will be told the reason why in the letter.
The court will notify you of the annual renewal session by notice in the Penguin News and on the Website. After the annual renewals session, if you have not been sent a letter telling you your licence has not been renewed, you should contact the court and arrange payment for your next annual licence.
If you are the holder of a Club Registration Certificate, you will need to complete an application form each year. The court will write to holders of Club Registration Certificates each year and send you the application form. You will be told by the court if your attendance is required or not. If, after the annual renewal session, you have not been sent a letter telling you your licence has not been renewed, you should contact the court and arrange payment for your next annual licence.
I want to object to a licence, what do I do?
If you wish to object to a renewal of a licence, you need to contact the Clerk to the Summary Corurt AND the licence holder by the 30th April giving notice of your intention to object and setting out why you will object. You will need to attend the annual renewal session and give evidence on oath about your objection. If you have not given notice by 30th April, the Licensing Justices will not be able to entertain your objection.
